Testaments of Honour and Defining Moments Canada
Testaments of Honour and Canadian Historical Education Services, with funding from the Government of Canada, have collaborated in creating an innovative digital commemoration platform: Defining Moments Canada (DMC).
Combining the skills of digital research, storytelling, and multi-disciplinary thinking, the DMC platform will provide assets, templates, online tutorials, and digital research guides for students, community groups, and heritage organizations to create their own commemorative projects. In 2018, we will honour the 100th anniversary of Spanish Flu Pandemic and its connection to the last year of the Great War.
Working with a common commemorative theme, each participant chooses an individual or a regional event (related to the theme) that has a personal connection or meaning for them. DMC participants construct a story from their singular personal perspective to come to better understand the commemorative event and to bring a large subject into focus through a more intimate, human lens. Our objective is to encourage and facilitate crowd-sourced
and crowd-shared Canadian stories that have shaped our heritage.
Commemoration for the 21st Century.
